David Wagner Life as a Daymaker: How To Change The World By Simply Making Someone's Day
“David Wagner has made incredible contributions to the salon industry. In his book, Life as a Daymaker, he makes even greater strides as a humanitarian. His generosity of spirit is a lesson for us all.”
-- Frederic Fekkai, world-renowned stylist.
Minneapolis: Internationally recognized stylist and CEO of Juut Salonspa, David Wagner, will hit the road this spring to make the day of people who could use a little cheering, nurturing and loving care. Wagner, innovator of “Daymaking,” will take his message on the road at a time when this country can truly use a dose of hope, joy and optimism. In April and May he embarks on a 16 city tour to promote his book, LIFE AS A DAYMAKER: How To Change The World By Simply Making Someone’s Day (Hardcover, April 2003, Jodere Group) and will be offering free makeovers to people who need them, along the way.

He will travel to most cities in conjunction with “Project Day Maker,” the RV that is outfitted as a traveling beauty salon. With the assistance of Aveda/Fredric’s, the owner of the RV, and the help of volunteer hair stylists, he will make numerous stops to lovingly offer free makeovers to people who really need some loving care - parents of children with cancer at hospitals and Ronald McDonald House, folks from local homeless shelters, fireman and rescue workers and others. All efforts will be coordinated through local salons in each area, from New York to Los Angeles.

Daymaking has spread like wild fire through the salon industry and is seeping into our culture more and more each day, with businesses, corporations, schools and even the US Navy consulting with Wagner on how to bring Daymaking into these organizations. Wagner learned the power of Daymaking through his work as a stylist and began sharing it with clients and others in the industry. Before long, stylists were calling themselves “Daymakers” and even putting it on their business cards.

“To be a Daymaker,” he explains, “one simply goes about life in a caring, compassionate manner that uplifts others. A ‘Daymaker’ is a person who performs intentional acts of kindness with the mindset of making the world a better place.”

Salons alone can create a huge ripple effect of good will and good feelings because stylists have the potential to make the day of so many individuals. The Japanese word Juut means to “replenish” and Daymaking is part of Juut’s corporate policy and way of being. “For example,” says Wagner. “We have 400 employees that touch ten people a day. That’s 4,000 people that we influence to have a great day. Now, if they go out and touch ten more people, that’s 40,000 people a day ... or over 14 million impressions a year.”

Wagner firmly believes that if we each make other people’s happiness part of what makes us happy, then we can consciously begin to change the world. This is the heart of the Daymaking concept, and David’s mission. It is the foundation of his successful Juut Salonspa, and his life.
